Faculty of Education (FoE), Tribhuvan University has a lead role in promoting education and addressing the need of people across the country. At present FoE is making a shift from traditional/conventional education to technology-based education. A Master’s degree programme on Information and Communication Technology Education (ICTE) is its one initiative. The philosophy of ICTE is compatible with the capacity of brain since it cannot always hold and remember all the information learnt. It gives us skills how to browse and exploit knowledge stored in the internet. Learners of today are NetGeners who do not want to memorize but want to search. Students’ ability to learn what they need for tomorrow is more important than what they know today. Philosophically, this pedagogy is shifted to connectivism of George Siemens which is one click away.
FoE has started ICTE since 2013. This M. Ed. in ICT is a semester-based programme designed to meet to needs of Information Technology professionals in the nation. It’s accredited by Tribhuvan University Faculty of Education for meeting their professional standards in terms of content and process quality assurance.
To prepare skilled and qualified instructors/teachers for Information Communication Technology Education.
To produce competent and confident users with the skills of programming and hardware concepts.
To help learners to have concepts of network security, operating systems and advanced database management system.
To adjust with well-suited citizens of the modern world in terms of information technology for ICTE related research and education
Applications for admission to M. Ed in ICT are invited from the interested candidates with the following requirements:
B.Ed. with Information and Communication Technology Education (ICT Ed.) specialization or
B.Ed. in Mathematics with bridge course on ICT Ed. conducted by Faculty of Education, TU or
Master of Education with 10-month ICTE training successfully completed
Need to pass the entrance test for admission
Method of Instruction
Instructional activities are designed in such a way that the student teachers are to interact and align with their teaching learning activities with ICT technologies such as wiki, blog, VLE environment like Moodle, web 2.0 tools like video conferencing. The teaching learning activities are also equipped with seminar, group discussion, demonstration, workshop, term paper presentation , case studies, library assignment, project work and lab work etc. Thus, the methods of the instruction will be the combination of several approaches
There will be 16 weeks teaching learning duration in each semester. Total number of teaching hours will be 48 for a theory paper. In Practical course, the duration of input will be 80 hours Thus, 48/80 teaching hours will be allocated for each 3 credit courses.
Practicum is the integral part of the M.Ed. programme. It is designed to provide opportunities to student to do intern as teacher in nearby campuses or the higher secondary schools. In this Practicum, each student is required to complete five activities: Micro teaching, Peer teaching, Test Construction, Actual Teaching, and Report writing. This practicum course will be carried out at forth semester.
Thesis writing within the specialization area is compulsory. The format for writing the thesis proposal and the procedure for approving it will be fixed by the Department Research Committee. The evaluation of the thesis will be based on viva-voice. The quality of thesis will be controlled by the Research Committees.
Attendance and Evaluation System
Minimum attendance in accordance with the university regulation is required (i.e. 80 %) in each subject in order to be eligible for end semester examination.
The Dean’s office, examination section, T.U. will conduct the examination at the end of each semester.
